Civano

Tucson currently has several communities dedicated to building high energy efficient solar homes in sustainable neighborhoods. Civano, on the southeast side of Tucson is the first nationally recognized sustainable green housing community. The newest subdivision has homes offered exclusively by Pepper Viner Homes, at North Ridge, with homes ranging from 1600 to 2600 square feet. Doucette Homes offers their Civano homes exclusively at two subdivisions at the Orchards and Presidio. These homes display colorful contemporary presidio architecture and are built in a unique cluster home design with easy access to shopping, recreation, and the community center. The Menlo Park Mercado District is the first major project being built as part of the larger downtown Rio Nuevo revitalization project for the City of Tucson. The Rio Nuevo Project emphasises the history, culture and traditions of Tucson and the Mercado District design creates an architectural link between the historic past and the modern center of downtown Tucson.

The Mercado District neighborhood is located next to the heart of the Tucson Rio Nuevo Project's planned cultural and museum center just west of downtown. Homes will be situated around small plazas and tree lined streets with pedestrian walkways. The new streetcar system will connect the neighborhood with downtown and the University of Arizona.
